How does a breast lift work?
In short, a breast lift removes excess skin to reshape the breast and reposition the areola. Each type of breast lift offers unique benefits and tradeoffs. The lollipop lift is the most common at Amelia, but all three, and even a combination of the different types, can be the right thing in the right setting.
Lollipop Lift
The lollipop lift scar goes around the areola and down the center of the breast, kind of like a lollipop! The breast tissue from the lower part of the breast can either moved up to the center or removed to make the breast a little less heavy.
A lollipop lift reshapes the breast and holds that shape by securing the breast tissue together. This type of lift doesn’t remove as much skin so it’s sometimes not the best choice for someone with a lot of loose skin.
Anchor Lift
An anchor lift scar goes around the areola, down the front, and along the breast crease. This type of lift removes the most loose skin to reshape the breast and reposition the nipple.
Like the lollipop, the breast tissue from the lower part of the breast can either be moved up to the center or removed to make the breast a little less heavy. The anchor lift is most useful for very large breasts or in those with a significant amount of excess skin.
Did you know you have a choice when it comes to the final steps of a lollipop and anchor lift?
- Keep the breast the same size by repositioning the breast tissue from the bottom of the breast to the middle. This is known as an auto-augmentation.
- Make the breast about one cup size smaller by removing the breast tissue from the bottom.
Donut Lift
The donut lift scar circles around the areola and is typically only used in tuberous breast cases. Though this scar is the smallest of the three types of lifts, it’s the least common type of lift because it doesn’t reshape the breast as well as the other types and puts a lot of tension on the areola. As a result, the areola can stretch out over time.

What is breast lift recovery time?
Breast lift recovery is typically 7-10 days of downtime and around six weeks of lifting and swimming/submerging in water restrictions. Final results are between 9 and 12 months post-op.

Do breast lift scars go away?
Breast lift scars take around 12 months post-op to fully heal and when cared for properly can continue to fade for many years. Consistent scar care and SPF are so important after your surgery, especially in the first year.
